When to consider an air ambulance in Bangladesh: 8 situations

This guide describes ambulances in general. What the ambulance for your trip carries, and who travels with the patient, is confirmed by our dispatcher before you book.

An air ambulance makes sense when the road trip is too long, too slow or too rough for the patient, and a doctor agrees the patient can fly. It costs far more than a road ambulance, so compare before you decide.

We do not own aircraft. We arrange air ambulance transfers through an aviation operator and take the patient to and from the airport in our ground ambulance.

Eight situations where families consider it

1. A very long distance, for example from a far northern or south-eastern district to Dhaka.
2. Roads that are slow or cut off by flood, damage or heavy traffic.
3. A patient who cannot bear a long road trip, in the doctor’s judgement.
4. Treatment needed urgently at a hospital that is hours away by road.
5. A move abroad for treatment, with a doctor-led handover at the other end.
6. Return from abroad to a hospital at home.
7. A patient who needs continuous monitoring that is easier on a short flight.
8. A transfer between cities where both hospitals are near an airport.

Questions to settle first

• Does the treating doctor agree the patient can fly? Only a doctor can say.
• Is there a bed waiting at the destination? Ask the receiving hospital to confirm.
• Who is the operator, and what is the full fare? Ask the operator before you agree.
• What do the two airport legs cost? Ground transfers at each end add to the total.
• What are the weather and daylight limits? Flights can be delayed.

Air or road?
